On April 24, 2025, Brussels will host the 4th annual Global Chronic Rhinosinusitis with Nasal Polyp Syndrome Awareness Day organized by the European Forum for Research and Education in Allergy and Airway Diseases (EUFOREA). This year’s theme is “New Ambitions of Care” and aims to shed light on CRSwNP—a condition affecting a significant portion of the global population.1 CRSwNP is an inflammatory disease of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses, impacting up to 5% of individuals worldwide.2,3 Characterized by persistent nasal congestion, rhinorrhoea, facial pressure, and loss of smell lasting over 12 weeks, severely diminishing the patient’s quality-of-life.4
In 2021, EUFOREA’s Patient Advisory Board highlighted the overlooked burden of CRSwNP and the deficiencies in current care, and proposed several recommendations for action plans to improve treatment for CRSwNP.5 This year’s awareness day seeks to empower patients and healthcare professionals by enhancing their understanding of CRSwNP and by exploring new ambitions of care. By promoting early diagnosis and effective management strategies (including referrals to specialist care), EUFOREA strives to alleviate the burden of CRSwNP on individuals and healthcare systems globally.2,6 The day also aims to raise awareness of the symptoms of CRSwNP, so that patients can recognise their symptoms and seek appropriate care.
As part of this year’s event, it’s crucial to recognize the ongoing challenges faced by patients with CRSwNP and the strides being made toward better care and support.
